Although every day is different at Nelly's, we have provided an illustrative day that one of our children would have been keen to tell you about:

Hello. My name is Tom and I’d really like to tell you about my day at Nursery. When I arrive at Nelly’s, I hang my coat and bag on my peg in the hall. In the main room, there are lots of activities laid out for me to choose from – first I pretend to bake a cake in the home corner and then I join my friend Amy who is building with blocks on the floor.

In the messy room, some of the children are finishing breakfast and Sarah, one of the people who looks after me, is filling the sand and water trays for us to play with. She has hidden plastic dinosaurs in the sand to dig up. Dinosaurs are the nursery’s theme this month and I can see Harry and Ola doing dinosaur sponge paintings to stick on the wall.

We have a glass of milk and some banana and then we all get together in the main room to sing counting songs and I chose to do a number puzzle at the table. We wash our hands and go to the dining room. I find my place name and sit down. It’s my turn to help serve and I carefully pass the plates of spaghetti to the others.

After a lovely lunch, I clean my teeth and while some of the other children have a nap, I play on the slide in the garden and ride a bike around the apple tree.

We spend the afternoon making shakers and exploring the musical instruments. A picnic tea has been prepared for us to eat in the garden and we enjoy the raisin biscuits that we made yesterday.

Sometimes, we dress up and talk about the costumes we are wearing, but today we decide to build a castle with cereal boxes. Then, I visit my sister Emily in the baby room and help Sarah give her a bottle. I like the baby room because it’s very cosy and has lots of soft toys to cuddle. I listen to the nursery rhymes being played for a little while and then rejoin my friends.

After reading my favourite book with Ola in the quiet room, I collect my bag and coat ready to go home. I can’t wait to see what we will do tomorrow!
